4.0 out of 5 stars Great babyseat, but installation is NOT straightforward!, April 19, 2012

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This seat is the best babyseat I've ever used, because the baby sits at the center of the bike (better weight distribution than a rear mount) and my son loves the unimpeded view forward. However it's not designed for the mountain bikes popular in the US but rather for the commuter bikes common in Holland (where the product is manufactured). Those who travel to Amsterdam regularly know the bike I'm referring to: less aggressive upright riding position with handlebars, on long necks, that curve back almost to your hips. But with certain other styles of bikes you can still make this seat work.

Very important: If your bike's handlebar neck is greater than 1.1 inches in diameter then the "adapter" they ship with the seat won't fit, because bolts are too short, and you won't be able to mount the seat. My bike, the Trek Soho [...] has a relatively thin 1.33" neck but the bolts still don't reach. So if you have a big "stocky" mountain bike you definitely can't use the... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the seat, beware compatibility!, August 19, 2012

My son has always been small, so I needed a seat that would carry a smaller child. The Yepp Mini fit the bill perfectly! He would ride up front, and hold onto the handle, and look around at everything passing by. He even grew to tolerate the helmet, because he knew it meant we were going on a bike ride!

He has finally grown out of it, but I got a good year of riding with him that I thought I would have to miss!

The only reason I give it 4 stars is that the mount only fit on my mom's bike. It was too thick to fit on the stem of either my bike or my husband's bike.

Frankly, I think my husband is just relieved to have our son ride behind him. He didn't like having him up where his knees bumped into the back of the seat. This was never a problem for me, and the benefit of having him where I could see him while he was still so small was fantastic!

5.0 out of 5 stars My son and I love it!, July 14, 2012
I bought this seat with a little hesitation because I have a mountain bike and didn't know if it would fit. I actually bought it from REI because I could get it the day I wanted it and easily return it if the setup didn't work. My son is 13 months now and I bought it for "us" for his one year birthday. If you have a standard mountain bike you have to mount it to the top tube of your front fork stem, and you can only do that if you have enough spacers between your headset and your stem. Some of your existing spacers will have to come out and be replaced by the adapter that comes with the Yepp mini. I measured it to be about 1 5/8" of height you need between the headset and stem to be able to mount the Yepp mini adapter to your top tube. I'm 6'6" and I have a a 22" frame Surly Karate Monkey. The setup works great for me. I have enough knee clearance to petal and even stand up a bit and climb hills. The Yepp mini comes off easily in less than 5 seconds also if I want to go for a...
